Description

The original church that stood on its site, first mentioned in 1262, was a three-nave Romanesque basilica. After a fire in 1361, it was rebuilt in Gothic style. After the foundation of the Ljubljana diocese in 1461, it was added to and rebuilt several times. It was probably burnt down by the Turks in 1469. In 1701, it was demolished and a new Baroque hall church in the form of a Latin cross with side chapels was built.
